As a working party, we enjoy our work, and have an excellent Team. We have a strong league, and offer a competitive running across Greater Manchester and surrounding areas. As Chair of The League, I am fortunate to have an excellent team around me.

To ensure the continued success of The League, and to keep both individuals & ideas fresh, a succession plan is needed. I mentioned at The AGM, that the time is approaching to find a replacement for myself (circa 12 years in role), and for Ruth Bardsley (H&S & course maps).  Ruth has given many years of sevice and in a variety of roles.

The Current structure is Nick Bishop (Chair), Val Brennan (Secretary), Mike Mannings (Treasurer), Mike Wharton (Officials liaison), Pete Budd (Course inspection), and Ruth.

We have tried to create a simple brief to describe the two roles.

Chair

  • Chair “Working Party” (WP) meetings.
  • Work with the treasurer and WP to ensure responsible financial management.
  • Work with the League Secretary and WP, to ensure all areas covered.
  • Help define the Leagues vision, goals, and long-term plans.
  • Make sure the League complies with its constitution, and any governing body requirements.
  • Ensure expectations are being met, race meetings are being run effectively, and member club’s needs are addressed…similarly, and with the WP, identify and mitigate financial, reputational, or safety risks.
  • Represent the League at events, and as required to the media, etc.
  • Liaise with sponsors, other clubs, or associations to support growth and sustainability.
  • Step in to mediate if conflicts arise within the League.

H&S & Course Maps

  • Attend “Working Party” (WP) meetings.
  • Communicate  with the Treasurer and Secretary for  medics and agree before booking at beginning of season
  • Work with the League Secretary and WP, to ensure agreed dates are understood for planning venue maps
  • Work with clubs that are putting on each match to agree map and course
  • Ensure Maps are correct for race day  – Check course and marshal points with a view to distance, risk and safety.
  •  Match day coordination with marshals and medics.

We are always interested to engage with keen indivuduals, and who want to help to steer the direction of The League. We will work alongside interested individuals to ensure a clean transition. Please rest assured that we are all still commited to the ongoing success of The League!
