Manchester Area XC League Match 5, Heaton Park, Saturday 7th February
Emily Haggard-Kearney returned to winning ways after her second place at Tatton Park at the popular final Heaton Park fixture, Stephen Green Reports.
The Irish XC international looked at home over the undulating mixed terrain course after the first of three short laps and held a significant lead over Ruth Jones. The Warriors standout extended her lead to over 90 seconds over Jones by the tape to secure the overall title. Katherine Fitzpatrick came home in third spot, leading Chorlton Runners to the team win.
Rosie Philbin, of Stockport Harriers was the first U20 female through the finish line.
Arlo Ludewick scored his fourth win of the series and the overall series title. Ludewick had some early company from fellow Manchester University student Freddie Roden, Aaron Doyle, George Beardmore and Jacob Wood–Doyle on the first large lap coming up the sharp climb.
Towards the end of lap two and through the woods Ludewick, 5th at the recent BUCS champs in Loughborough held around a fifty metre gap over Roden, which he extended to just over twenty seconds by the finish.
Beardmore, in third, led Salford to the team win. Bryn Lawrence of Bury AC was the first U20 home.
The U17 boys’ winner was Adrian White of Trafford, around 60m clear of Christopher Parkin, with Alfie Branch third. Isla Pastor of Warriors was a convincing U17 girls’ winner, over a minute clear of Poppy Branch, with Imogen Dunning third.
The U15 boys were led home by Stockport’s Harry Shatwell, fifteen seconds to the good from Noah Phillips, with Alistair Riley third. Emma Lowe of Salford Harriers held a narrow three second victory margin over Grace Hill, in the U13 girls’ event, with Caitlin Wetters third.
The U13 boys’ were led home by Salford Harriers’ Isaac Taylor–Unitt, who was 30m clear of Ethan Statham by the tape, with Arthur O’Hare third.
In the U13 girls’ event Roni Kohring of Warriors enjoyed a 20 second margin of victory over Daisy McVicar, with Lucy O’Brien third.
The first three U11 boys were Lucas Pendlebury, Leo Selby and Oscar Reynolds, with the first three U11 girls’ Sorcha Torhill, Melia Ferendenus followed by Georgiana Beech.
