Manchester Area XC League, October 11th Woodbank Park, Stockport
University of Manchester’s Arlo Ludewick, won the first of the Manchester Area Cross Country League races, after a close tussle with training partner Nigel Martin on a sunny autumnal day, Stephen Green reports.
Ludewick was always prominent in a large group which also included Alex Ediker and Ryan Worland. As the race progressed, Ludewick and Martin gradually pulled clear of Ediker. On the flattish area following the final severe climb out of the valley, Ludewick using his 3:38 1500m speed, broke the tape six seconds to the good, with Ediker in third, leading Salford to a team win. First U20 man home was Warriors’ Oberon Kearney, in 12th place.
Emily Haggard – Kearney used her trademark front running tactics to superb effect. The Warriors’ athlete looked untroubled through the steep descents and climbs to pull almost a minute clear of Trafford’s Beth Reid, who in turn was a similar distance ahead of Jacqui Fairchild. First U20 home was Rosie Philbin in 16th place. Sale Harriers took the team honours.
The U17 boys’ race was won by Finlay Dobson-Emma leading a Trafford quartet home. Warriors Isla Pastor Evans was twelve seconds clear of Poppy Branch, with Imogen Dunning, third.
Alistair Riley edged Stockport Harriers teammate Harry Shatwell in the U15 boys’ race, with Noah Phillips in third place.
First U15 girl back was Warriors’ Isla Yorke 50 seconds ahead of Isabel Beddow, with Imogen Weatherhead, third.
U13 Loxley Schofield of Salford Mets was five seconds clear of Arthur O’Hare with Isaac Taylor – Unitt in third. Warriors Rhoni Kohring led home teammate Daisy McVicar, with Tillie Wright of Liverpool third.
In the Under 11’s, Lucas Pendlebury led home Joshua Long and Jacob Renshaw in the boys’ race with Melia Ferendenus winning the girls’ event, with Sophie McCready and Georgiana Beech second and third.
The League is grateful to lead sponsor Run North West, Worsley Physio and City of Manchester Athletics.
