We are saddened to announce that Peter Gilligan has recently passed away.
He was a member of Middleton Harriers for over 40 years and was a very popular and active member of our club and will be sadly missed. He was a regular attender of the local Cross Country events and was a crucial part of our course building team. In addition to all the work he did for Middleton, he played an active role in Cross Country Leagues and was an active participant in setting up the MACCL League, and becoming League Chair.

The arrangements for Peter’s funeral are as follows
Peter will be ready to be viewed in the Chapel of Rest at Wellens and Co on 121 Long Street, Middleton from 2pm Tuesday, 6th Jan until Tuesday 13th. Mon-Thurs is 9am-4.30pm. Friday is 9am-4pm. If anyone wants to attend in the evening they need to phone them 24 hours in advance.
Tuesday 13th at 1600hrs his body will be taken to St Thomas More’s church for rest overnight.
The funeral will take place at St Thomas More, Mainway (junction with Kirkway), Alkrington, Middleton at 1300hrs Wednesday 14th January, members are encouraged to wear their club tops.
Cremation is at Boarshaw Crematorium, at approx 1420hrs -there are limited places, and Peter’s son has asked that we limit attendees to Committee members past and present, and close friends.
The Wake will be at the Olde Boars Head, Long Street with access from approx 1400-1430 and people can come and go as they please. There will be sandwiches and chips and tea/coffee but drinks should be paid for individually.
