We are starting to receive enquiries from Club Contacts relating to the weather warnings for the next 48 hours.
We are in contact with both Stockport Harrirers and the Council. We dont yet know the Council’s position, but we are aware that a number of parkruns are being cancelled by the Forestry Commision, and/or land owners.
This is not a question of the course/conditions themselves, but there are guidelines on wind speed, including predictions and then UKA guidelines. There is the potential that this could be “high risk” and a danger to life. This is where “duty of care” becomes the issue. Sad to say but three fatalities that I know of have happened in high winds in recent years and all within a 15 mile radius of Woodbank Park. Gazebos also become a hazard.
We expect to know more in the morning, and hope to then make a decision by lunch time.
Thanks for your undertanding, and as always, your support of the League.
Nick Bishop.
Chair MACCL.
