Manchester Area XC League Match 4, Tatton Park, 15th January

Sophie Wood (30.24) moved towards the overall title with a resounding win around 200m ahead of fellow Sale Harrier Alice Wright at Tatton Park.

Wood took the lead from the gun, from a field of over 350 women, racing over a 8.2k distance. She remained unchallenged across the fast, yet undulating course, with Naomi Alleyne in third another 300m in arrears. Sale also continued their dominance of the team standings.

Bethany Reid edged Emily Russell on the line, to take U20 honours . Sarah Murphy was the leading V40 athlete in sixth place.

Nigel Martin, also of Sale (30:27) moved towards champion status taking pole position from a field of almost 500 men from the gun. Martin skipped over the tougher muddy sections, and firm fields to finish over a minute ahead of David Barratt.

Nicholas Barry completed the just under 10k course around 50m down in third. Barratt led Salford Harriers to a narrow team victory over Sale.

Joseph Buckley was the leading U20 finisher, ahead of Edward Corden.

Special mention for Dave Norman, who has been a league stalwart for over 20 years. The Altrincham man finished an outstanding twelfth in taking V40 spoils.

The league would like to thank our hosts Tatton Park, Sale Harriers, Wilmslow RC, Running Bear RC and the host of officials and volunteers who made this successful fixture happen.

The final match takes place at the popular traditional Heaton Park venue, on Saturday the 19th February.
