Chorlton’s evergreen V40 John Gilbert (35:12) moved clear of Nicholas Barry to win the final Manchester League XC race by the best part of 200m, with V40 Gavin Tomlinson of Trafford third.
Rachel Theobald (Wirral) in placing 13th did enough to win the overall U20 women’s title.
Salford Harrier’s Ruth Jones (35:30) always at home in tough conditions pulled away from early leader Alice Wright for a 30 second win in the women’s race with fellow Sale Harrier Hannah Brown in third.
Gilbert led Chorlton Runners to a team win, with Sale taking the team spoils in the women’s race.
Charlie Smith and Harry Ellwood, despite not racing at Heaton Park, shared U20 top honours overall.
Sophie Wood and Nigel Martin, both of Sale, also not racing, were convincing winners of the overall series.
